Guyenne-Blond got in touch with the firm IGENITY ( a subsidiary company of Merial Cie ), settled in North America and the United Kingdom and supplied the laboratory with biological samples in order to obtain the genotyping of about 40 French animals (Blonde d’Aquitaine breed.)
We have now the results of the studies and genomic profilings of these animals.
Two criterias were considered:
- for the breeding: easy calving, milk, weight at one year.
- for the meat qualities: flavour, productivity, juice, internal fat…
As the samples were very varied, ( coming from both selected and common animals ), the first results look very encouraging and present a great variability on different criteria. Although some people disagree with us, we are certain that genomics will be in a near future a valuable aid of selection, necessary in order to choose which animals are to be kept or sold as breeding stock.
Guyenne-Blond wants to continue in this direction in order to propose in a near future, animals with a well-known morphology and genotype on major economic criteria. Our organisation has decided to analyse 250 other animals very soon in order to make more precise profilings.
Here is an example of a genomic profile of one of our “elite” animal: Canelle.
